Job Overview
This role is embedded in the Manufacturing Engineering group within our Global Operations Engineering team at our new state-of-the-art device manufacturing facility in North Charleston, South Carolina. Together, with the rest of the team, you will drive and support manufacturing automation, with a particular focus on SHL’s automated material handling, intralogistics systems, and the digital systems that connect them.
Main Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary automation SME for SHL’s automated intralogistics systems including, but not limited to: the automated Pallet Warehouse (PWH), Automated Servus and Retrieval System (ASRS), component handling/conveying systems, palletizing/packing lines, and all auxiliary hardware required to effectively run those systems (robots, conveyor systems, automated retrieval robots, etc.)
- Serve as a core team member on the Equipment & Automation sub-team, responsible for driving site-wide automation improvements and troubleshooting
- Gain an understanding for the hardware, specific processes associated with them, and the underlying software responsible for controlling the systems, including the digital business systems (MES, EAM, etc.)
- Understand the SAP, MES, and EWM integration well enough to guide non-SMEs and troubleshoot potential issues associated with those transactions
- Develop additional documentation to help end-users navigate daily operation of the equipment and troubleshoot common issues
- Lead & support troubleshooting and issue resolution of critical production systems to minimize unplanned downtime
- Collaborate with peers to identify equipment improvement initiatives and drive and/or support them to completion
- Lead and support the identification of novel manufacturing systems and software for next gen manufacturing systems. Promote use of new technologies and industry-leading trends. Provide highest level of technical expertise

Skills and Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent education/experience required
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience working with automated material handling and/or intralogistics equipment (conveyors, AGV/RGV, robots, etc.)
- Experience interfacing with digital business/manufacturing systems, SAP and Siemens platforms preferred
- Knowledge of common problem-solving and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies
- Knowledge of common industry equipment, devices, and sensors (pneumatics, robotic arms, servo-controlled devices, common sensing instruments, etc.)
