Job Overview

 

The Operations Manager is the tactical leader of the injection molding production floor, responsible for translating operational strategy into daily execution. This role leads the team of Production Supervisors to consistently achieve departmental targets. Success in this role will be measured by achieving key performance indicators for production output, safety, and the reduction of non-conformities. The Operations Manager will own the daily performance of the department, drive a culture of accountability, and ensure the production team operates in strict compliance with all regulatory standards.

 

Main Responsibilities

 

  • People & Team Leadership:
    • Directly lead, coach, and develop the team of Production Supervisors across all shifts, driving performance management and professional growth.
    • Foster a strong, positive, and accountable culture on the production floor, ensuring every team member is engaged and understands their role in achieving our goals.
    • Own day-to-day workforce management, including shift scheduling, overtime authorization, and the execution of performance-related disciplinary actions in accordance with company policy.
  • Operational Execution:
    • Own the execution of the daily and weekly production schedule, allocating resources effectively to meet output targets and delivery deadlines.
    • Lead daily production meetings (Tier meetings) to review performance against KPIs, set clear priorities, and address immediate challenges.
    • Empower Production Supervisors to manage the day to day production and make real-time decisions on the floor, acting as the primary point of escalation and support when challenges exceed their scope.
  • Continuous Improvement & Compliance:
    • Drive a hands-on approach to leadership, spending significant time on the production floor to identify and eliminate waste.
    • Champion daily continuous improvement activities (e.g., 5S, Standard Work) and empower supervisors and operators to solve problems.
    • Ensure adherence to all cGMP and ISO 13485 procedures, working with Quality to maintain a constant state of audit readiness on the floor.
    • Collaborate closely with the Engineering and Planning teams to ensure smooth introduction of new processes and efficient resolution of technical issues.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Skills and Qualification

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • At least 5 years of experience directly managing a production team.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a highly regulated industry (e.g., Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, Automotive).
  • Strong, practical knowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles and tools (e.g., 5S, Standard Work, Gemba).
  • Excellent people management, coaching, and conflict resolution skills.

Preferred:

  • Direct experience in injection molding or plastics manufacturing.
  • Experience in a 24/7 manufacturing operation with a 2-3-2 shift model.
