Job Overview
The predictive data engineer will be responsible for improving the effectiveness of the maintenance technician workforce by developing and implementing tools to collect and utilize machine data to create tools for predictive maintenance. This position will require the design, implementation, and startup of data collection and processing systems, which involves the application of machine communication protocols, databasing software, visualization systems and process engineering skills. This role includes the use of structured problem-solving and statistical process improvement methodologies. Contributes to and leads small project teams to ensure the successful completion of team objectives. Requires close collaboration with the automation engineers and operations staff during the design process to troubleshoot and resolve problems during construction or installation.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Utilize knowledge of manufacturing control systems to determine most efficient path for retrieving maintenance critical data from Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) systems.
  • Develop database system that will collect and store all predictive maintenance data in a manner that meets data integrity and retention requirements.
  • Develop visualization and trending tools to process and present predictive maintenance data from the different data sets that lead to actionable tasks for the maintenance and production teams.
  • Identify Improvement Opportunities in existing manufacturing operations
  • Optimize processes to attain lower manufacturing costs, increased productivity, and reduced cycle times.
  • Identifies/communicates/overcomes obstacles that may prohibit meeting production requirements. 
  • Promotes a clean/safe workplace. 
  • Contributes to project teams to ensure the successful completion of team objectives. 
  • Improve process procedures by partnering with operating employees in different departments to collect and analyze and implement results via training or capital expenditure recommendations.
  • Develop and implement WI (Work Instruction (WI) Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), and Guidelines to ensure the efficient operation of the predictive maintenance tools.
  • Identifies training needs and develops training documentation for employees to ensure the effective use of predictive maintenance tools.
  • Must Support continuous improvement projects to improve the safety, robustness, and compliance of the manufacturing, facilities, and utilities equipment.
  • Must be able to manage workload efficiently while maintaining Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and compliance with ISO 13485 requirements.
  • Use data analysis to help analyze the root cause of the problems and potential future problems by performing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).

 

Skills and Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, i.e. Data Science, Industrial Technology, Industrial Engineering etc
  • At least 5 years of experience in a Data Engineer role, preferably working with Siemens control systems, Siemens MES and SAP in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing effective predictive maintenance programs and tools.
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance-leading practices, including preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, and reliability-centered maintenance
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate staff.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex maintenance issues
