Job Overview
The Direct Material Planner is responsible for the direct material replenishment process from placement of purchase order releases, follow up with suppliers and delivery of raw materials/components to support the sites production schedule. Work closely with suppliers to maintain supplier relationships. Provides other support to Operations and Management as required.
Main Responsibilities
- Plans all purchased parts within responsibility area. Make decisions to release, firm, cancel, or defer releases based on current inventory, demand, and capacity.
- Responsible for maintaining appropriate inventory levels to support production plan.
- Works with suppliers to expedite or defer materials as dictated by changes in internal and external customer requirements and to meet production and inventory objectives.
- Works independently with suppliers to manage material supply to ensure on time deliveries.
- Independently identify priorities and proactively work to achieve efficiency in updating purchase order releases per supplier updates.
- Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and keep up good communications up to and including business calls outside of business hours.
- Troubleshoot issues with suppliers accordingly.
- Assist in managing transportation logistics for material as needed.
- Maintains accurate purchase order information in the ERP system. Modifies order release due dates, quantities, and closes purchase orders, etc., based on planning demand.
Skills and Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain or related fields and 3+ years of large ERP (preferably SAP) experience in a similar role preferred
- 3+ years of experience working in a medical device, pharmaceutical or other highly regulated industry manufacturing environment preferred
- Experience working in a GMP and/or ISO 13485 environment prefered
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
- Extremely organized and detail oriented.
- Must have strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate cross-functionally.
- Must be process oriented and maintain a constant vigilance towards process adherence.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, frequently changing, and evolving environment.
- Must be solutions oriented with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
