Equipment Engineer

Job Overview

This role is embedded in the Manufacturing Engineering group within our Global Operations Engineering team at our new state-of-the-art device manufacturing facility in North Charleston, South Carolina. Together with the rest of your team, you will support the automated production of sub-components, packaging materials, and assemblies for our autoinjector system.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead and support troubleshooting and issue resolution of critical production equipment to minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Provide mechanical leadership and support for the rest of the department, including uprev’ing designs, drawings, & and schematics
  • Improve system and equipment reliability for the core processes to meet all customer, business, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the development of equipment improvement plans, including proposing new designs and retrofits, getting stakeholder buy-in, working with relevant vendors, and managing implementation & testing.
  • Lead and support commissioning and acceptance testing of new production equipment.
  • Manage technology transfer (receiver function) of new equipment into mass production.
  • Support validation activities for new equipment and processes as necessary
  • Lead and support the identification of novel production equipment for next-gen manufacturing systems.
  • Promote the use of new technologies and industry-leading trends. Provide the highest level of technical expertise.
  • Collaborate closely with production teams, machine builders, process/product development groups, and the quality department on performance/process improvements, troubleshooting, and critical event response.

 

Skills and Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related Several years of relevant hands-on experience working with automated and semi-automated manufacturing equipment
  • Expertise with CAD software (2D & 3D); experience designing custom parts for production equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, & pneumatic systems
  • Passionate & committed self-starter with the ability to work independently and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent intercultural and interdisciplinary communication skills
  • Experience/knowledge of metal processing/forming and/or vacuum thermoforming.
  • Previous exposure to a highly regulated industry (e.g. medical, pharmaceutical) and knowledge of relevant standards (e.g. ISO13485, cGMP)
  • Knowledge of common problem-solving and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies
  • Willingness to initially spend an extended period in our facility in Taiwan for induction/training.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged standing, bending/stooping, & manipulating objects.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Occasional travel may be required (10%).
