Global Materials Engineering Manager

Job Overview

Provide excellence in Materials Analysis to improve process understanding, quality, and compliance of the products, efficiency, and capability of the processes, and profitability of the organization. Leading a team of four direct reports in Taiwan – team is set to be expanded beyond that. There will be travel to Taiwan involved, approx. 30-40%.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Manager responsibilities
  • Maintain and manage Laboratory and equipment qualifications, certifications, and accreditations.
  • Conduct proactive research and in-depth analysis of the materials market to consistently stay updated on the latest advancements, emerging trends, and innovative materials. This ongoing effort ensures our expertise in materials remains at the forefront of the industry.
  • To play a vital role in materials analyses and in maintaining laboratory standard practices under ISO17025.
  • Provide hands-on and theoretical expertise in areas of materials analysis methods for polymer science, metallurgy, chemistry, and mechanics.
  • Run independent Research and Development projects to further SHL knowledge base in Process Development, Testing, and Mechanical Design.
  • Support maintenance and improvement of Materials Database.
  • Present findings and make actionable recommendations (written and verbal) horizontally and vertically within and across departments.
  • Participate / Lead investigations into deviations and non-conformities
  • Engage in department digitalization efforts and improve laboratory practices.
  • Collaborate and drive cross-functional initiatives and communications.
  • Provide expert materials evaluations for DFx

 

Minimum requirements

  • Master’s degree in Materials Science or any Engineering discipline with a concentration in materials
  • 7-10 years related work experience in an analytical laboratory or technical role related to materials analysis 3-5 years as a managerial function
  • Knowledge of Polymer Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, and Mechanics.
  • Business English

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Molding Processes, Failure Analysis, Computer Simulations, and related applications
  • Experience and in-depth knowledge in Sustainable Materials.
  • Experience in Data Analysis, Data Science, and Statistics
  • Basic experience in coding, E.g. R, Python, and PowerBI
