Advancing liquid-liquid drug delivery through Magnitude
October 05 2026
In the September issue of ONdrugDelivery co-authored by SHL Medical and Stevanato Group, we explore how Magnitude, an evolution of Maggie, can expand the possibilities for large-volume drug delivery. The article focuses on Magnitude 3.0, assessing its compatibility with Stevanato Group’s EZ-fill® 3 mL internal-bypass cartridge as a standardized pathway for liquid-liquid fixed-dose combination (FDC) development.
For therapies targeting multiple disease pathways, FDCs can simplify treatment by bringing multiple drugs into a single product. However, some active substances cannot be coformulated and must remain physically separate during storage. Supporting these formulations through dual-chamber delivery has traditionally involved customized primary containers, bespoke device development, and adaptations across fill-finish and final assembly, adding complexity, cost, and risk to development.
The article explains how a standardized container-device offering can help address this challenge. A collaborative assessment demonstrated the compatibility between Magnitude 3.0 and Stevanato Group’s dual-chamber cartridge without modification to the existing device, while feasibility testing established an initial functional baseline for the combined configuration. Together with established RTU fill-finish and final assembly concepts, this provides a more standardized approach that can reduce development risk and cost, and accelerate time to market for liquid-liquid combination products.
