Advancing lyophilized drug delivery with SHL Medical’s Reunite

SHL Medical is pleased to announce its feature in the inaugural dual-chamber systems edition of ONdrugDelivery magazine, where Dr. Nina Fetz, Senior Manager of Customer Solutions, introduces Reunite™, an innovative dual-chamber cartridge autoinjector.

As the development of biologics for chronic diseases continues to advance, many remain intrinsically unstable in liquid form and therefore require lyophilization, which could limit their use to in-clinic settings. Reunite was designed to address this need by providing a patient-friendly drug delivery solution for lyophilized formulations, which have traditionally relied on complex vial kits and often required administration by healthcare professionals.

Reunite seamlessly integrates two core components: a dual-chamber cartridge (DCC) and SHL Medical’s proprietary Needle Isolation Technology (NIT^®). The DCC securely separates the lyophilized drug and diluent until use. Upon activation, a single spring-driven sequence enables automated reconstitution, eliminating manual steps and reducing cognitive demand. Meanwhile, the NIT ensures safe, automated needle attachment with complete needle concealment before and after use, minimizing the risk of needlestick injury and contamination.
